Borussia Dortmund's 3-2 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach came at a cost this afternoon - Maximilian Beier picked up an injury and tried to play through the pain barrier before requesting a substitution in the 35th-minute.

"Maxi is now in the hospital and is being examined. He took a blow to his ankle," said coach Niko Kovac after the match, adding: “It's the fibula, which is simply the slightly thinner bone down there.”

While he hoped that "not too much would happen," Kovac continued, he hinted that he feared the worst. "If Maxi goes out and can no longer grit his teeth, that means a lot," the coach explained.

The BVB head coach was more than satisfied with the result after a tiring run of fixtures over the last week as Die Schwarzgelben faced the Bundesliga leaders and the La Liga leaders in the UEFA Champions League in quick succession.

"When you score goals, you know what can happen here in the stadium with the fans. The team fought until the end and deserved the three points. It was the next exhausting game after Bayern and Barcelona," he explained.
