Italian publication Tuttosport is reporting the story, suggesting that AC Milan have been looking at the Austrian for a while. Sabitzer is being lined up as a replacement for former Hamburg midfielder Hakan Calhonuglu, who made a summer switch from AC Milan to Serie A champions Inter.

The RB Leipzig captain is entering the final year of his current contract with the east-German club, and has been subject to interest from many clubs around Europe including Liverpool and Tottenham from the Premier League.

The Austria international had 9 goals and 7 assists in 39 games across all competitions last season. The 27 year old has played for both RB Salzburg an RB Leipzig, he has been with the latter since the 2015/16 season in the second division and risen up with them helping out with 52 goals and 42 assists in that time. Sabitzer’s Austria face Italy in the round of 16 of the Euros on Saturday, following their qualification as runners-up to the Netherlands in group C.
