Jonas Omlin and Borussia Mönchengladbach have parted ways a year before his contract expires, as he returns to FC Basel.

The goalkeeper previously played for the Swiss side from 2018 to 2020 and has just signed a contract with his home club until 2029.

Omlin moved from HSC Montpellier to Borussia Mönchengladbach in January 2023 for a fee of around €9million in total.

Since then, the goalkeeper has only made 36 appearances for the Foals, equating to a cost of around €250,000 per match.

“It feels a bit like coming home, and I’m incredibly excited to see the amazing fans at St. Jakob-Park again," the 32-year-old said.

"I have so many positive memories of FC Basel. I won my first title here with the team, and my performances at FC Basel earned me a call-up to the national team.

“Now I’m really looking forward to returning with a wealth of experience and helping FC Basel compete for titles again,” he added.
