After 424 appearances, 168 goals and 128 assists, Marco Reus will leave Borussia Dortmund after twelve years at the club.

BVB and Reus decided against renewing the contract of the 34-year-old which expires at the end of the campaign.

During his time in the Bundesliga, Reus has shown incredible loyalty to his hometown club. The Dortmund native returned home in 2012, leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach as German footballer of the year. Reus now departs after a total of more than 21 years at the club across both youth and professional levels.

Alongside the announcement, Reus spoke out regarding his time at the club.

“I'm incredibly grateful for and proud of this special time at my club Borussia Dortmund. I have spent more than half of my life at this club and enjoyed every day, even though there have of course been difficult moments too.”

“I already know now that I will find it difficult to say goodbye at the end of the season. And yet I'm happy that there is now clarity and that we can focus fully on the very important final games that we still have to play.”

“We have a big objective in our sights that we all want to achieve together. To do so, we will need every single one of our unbelievable fans, to whom I would like to express my sincere thanks for their unbelievable support over the years.”

Reus has two remaining home matches to say his goodbyes to Signal Iduna Park, and with a potential Champions League final on the cards, BVB supporters will want nothing more than to see Reus bow out in style at Wembley.
