Based on Abendzeitung's sources, Leon Goretzka has opted to stay at Bayern Munich until the end of the season for sporting reasons.

Atlético Madrid – who have been heavily linked with the midfielder – were ready to match his Bayern salary for the rest of the season.

However, Goretzka sees a chance of winning his second Champions League title, seventh Bundesliga title and even a treble this season.

He does not want to miss out on what could be an incredible campaign and intends to leave Bavaria on a high after 8 years at the club.

Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund has already confirmed that Goretzka will leave as a free agent next summer

In addition, after he made his comeback with the national team last March, Goretzka does not want to jeopardize his World Cup chances.

The 30-year-old fears moving to a new club and league mid-season, could dent his chances at reaching his last major tournament for Germany.
