Marc-André ter Stegen is expected to be sidelined for several months after suffering an injury in Barcelona's 5-1 win over Villarreal on Sunday.

According to AS, initial scans indicate that ter Stegen has torn his patellar tendon, and Bild reports that this would mean he would be out for more than eight months.

Barcelona have yet to announce an exact diagnosis on the German international and have not put a timeframe on his recovery.

Either way, the injury is a bitter blow for ter Stegen, who was finally named as Germany's first-choice goalkeeper after Manuel Neuer announced his international retirement following Euro 2024.

He picked up the injury after a corner just before half-time when he fell hard and had to be stretchered off.
