Hertha updates: Cigerci signs, Redan recalled, Maolida out, Demirbay loan cancelled

Hertha BSC officially unveiled Tolga Cigerci as a new player shortly after the transfer deadline passed on Tuesday. It has also been revealed that attacking flanker Daishawn Redan has been recalled early from his loan spell at Utrecht.

In other Hertha news, a loan-out for winger Myziane Maolida should be confirmed soon. A play to obtain midfielder Kerem Demirbay on loan from Leverkusen has apparently fallen through.

Hertha BSC confirmed the return of Turkish defensive midfielder Tolga Cigerci shortly after the transfer window closed in Germany on Tuesday. In a modest, yet quaint, public relations stunt from the new administrative team, a video on social media showed the Turkish international pulling his old coffee cup out of the cupboard in the squad's break room. Cigerci played for Hertha between 2014 and 2016.

The club's newly re-tooled front office has also, as confirmed by FC Utrecht, recalled 21-year-old Daishawn Redan from his latest loan locale in the Erdevisie. The forward will spend the second half of the season in Charlottenburg, where he last made seven appearances for his parent club during the 2020/21 campaign.

It would appear that new sporting director Benjamin Weber and staff have wrapped up one last piece of unfinished business from the Fredi Bobic regime. French winger Myziane Maolida is en route to his native country in preparation for his move to Stade Reims. The club actually announced his departure via their social media feed, leaving it open whether the player will be sold or loaned.

Sky Germany reports that a last-ditch effort by "die alte Dame" to acquire former German national team midfielder Kerem Demiraby from Bayer 04 Leverkusen has fallen through. The 29-year-old will remain in North-Rhine Westphalia whilst Hertha come out empty handed.
