Hummels, Boateng and Süle - who will play and who will be benched?

Bayern München have three world-class centre-backs in Mats Hummels, Jerome Boateng and Niklas Süle, but only two of them can play at once. So who will start against Hoffenheim tomorrow?

Ahead of Bayern München's Bundesliga game against Hoffenheim on Friday, Mats Hummels, Jerome Boateng and Niklas Süle compete for a spot in the starting eleven.

Only two of them will start, and Bayern coach Niko Kovac is spoiled for choice as they have each made a great impression in training during the winter break.

"Actually, they should all play, but since we don't play with three at the back, one of them has to be on the bench. I have three top centre-backs. The decision will be really tight. They have all trained really well," Kovac told Bild and added:

"No matter who I leave out, he'll not understand my decision."

According to Bild, it's not unlikely that Niklas Süle will draw the shortest straw. Boateng and Hummels has mostly been playing together during the past few training sessions, and they also did so in the Telekom Cup final against Borussia Mönchengladbach last weekend.

In addition to that, the German tabloid reports, the experienced duo have been extremely strong during the winter break and finally seem fully fit.

If Kovac indeed prefers to line up with Boateng and Hummels, it will be a bitter pill to swallow for Niklas Süle who is hopeful that he will get to play against his former club.

"Unfortunately, I didn't play last year. This year, I hope I can play - and then it will be something very special," Süle said about tomorrow's game against Hoffenheim.
