Bayern legend Giovane Elber praises Fiete Arp

Giovane Elber says he has been 'surprised positively' by Jann-Fiete Arp following the striker's arrival at Bayern München.
Bayern München newcomer Jann-Fiete Arp has impressed club legend Giovane Elber after joining the Bavarians from Hamburger SV this summer.

"The boy has surprised me very positively. You see that he wants to show something. But of course, he's still young. It's important that he doesn't let anything trouble him and that he doesn't think too much. The older, more experienced players have to perform. Arp is here to learn," Elber told Sportbuzzer.

It has been suggested that it would be best for the young striker's development if he's sent out on loan for the 2019/20 season, but Elber believes the 19-year-old would thrive more from staying.

"I hope he stays. Because with someone like Robert Lewandowski in the squad, he can learn so much in training and get to know the whole club better as a newcomer. And then, he can hopefully show some more of himself. Even if there will of course be a few bad games," the former Bayern striker said.

Bayern have paid €3 million to sign Arp from HSV.
