Augsburg keeper Tomas Koubek has faced criticism after making a number of errors following his summer move from Stade Rennais for €7,5 million.

Despite that, Koubek's position as the club's first-choice goalkeeper isn't in question, says Augsburg coach Martin Schmidt.

"Tomas Koubek's position is safe," Schmidt said in an interview with Kicker.

Schmidt is confident that Koubek will be able to bounce back from Augsburg's 1-5 loss to Gladbach on October 6 in which the goalkeeper made a howler and gifted Alassane Pléa a goal.

"You can feel such a punch in the gut for a while. Something like that doesn't pass without leaving a trace. But he's professional enough to brush it off. He has to and can deal with that," Schmidt said.

Koubek has conceded 19 goals in seven Bundesliga appearances this season.
