Schalke 04 have sealed the signing of 24-year-old Belgian centre-back Dries Wouters from KRC Genk.

"Capturing Dries’ signature is further proof that, even in Bundesliga 2, Schalke 04 still carries huge appeal for young players with great potential," said Schalke sporting director Rouven Schröder.

"With his footballing ability, his physicality and his character, Dries has everything you need to play a key role in our team. We’re delighted that he will strengthen our options at centre-back."

Wouters is the tenth player to join Schalke 04 this summer. The Gelsenkirchen side have already confirmed the signings of Marius Bülter, Rainhold Ranftl, Victor Palsson, Marcin Kaminski, Danny Latza, Simon Terodde, Thomas Ouwejan (loan), Marvin Pieringer (loan) and Yaroslav Mikhailov (loan).

As for departures, Schalke have said goodbye to a total of 21 first team players, including players on loan, following their relegation from Germany's top-flight.
