Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso gave a bleak injury update on Amine Adli after the attacking midfielder was forced off in Wednesday's 1-1 Champions League draw with Stade Brest.
Adli came on in the 63rd minute, but had to come off in the 81st minute. After a challenge from Soumaila Coulibaly on Adli's ankle, the Bayer Leverkusen player immediately indicated that he needed to be substituted.
"Amine was hit on the ankle and everyone could see from his reaction that it was very painful," said Xabi Alonso after the game.
“It doesn't look good, we'll have to wait and see. That's the worst news of the day.”
Leverkusen took the lead against Stade Brest through Florian Wirtz, but had to settle for a draw after Pierre Lees-Melou leveled the scoreline.
Commenting on the game, Alonso said:
“We did very well until the 1-1 goal. We were in control and the goal we conceded unsettled us. Then we had a period where we were unfocused. We lost the ball a few times, lacked concentration, and we need to learn from that for next time.”
