VfL Wolfsburg captain Maximilian Arnold has been handed down a two-game suspension from the DFB sports court, the club have declared.

The German midfielder was initially yellow carded in the 24th-minute for a tackle on Junior Adamu in their 1-0 defeat to SC Freiburg.

Match official Sven Jablonski consulted with VAR before his decision was rightly upgraded to a straight red card.

Arnold will now be unavailable for Die Wolfe’s fixtures which include a trip to Dortmund and the visit of Hoffenheim.

With it being the fourth red card of his career, the 30-year-old is just two more behind the Bundesliga record of 6 dismissals each held by six players.

The list includes Vedad Ibisevic, Jerome Boateng, Maurizio Gaudino, Torsten Wohlert and Fernando Meira.
