Leipzig boss comments on uncertain future of veterans

RB Leipzig boss Marcel Schäfer has commented on reports suggesting the squad could be overhauled this summer.

Reports have suggested that veterans Kevin Kampl, Yussuf Poulsen and Peter Gulacsi, who are all under contract until 2026, could be shipped out of RB Leipzig this summer in a bid to rejuvenate the squad.

Asked about the future of the club's veterans, Leipzig managing director for sport Marcel Schäfer told Kicker:

"We have a transparent and good dialogue with all our players. What does the player want? What does the club want? What is the best way forward for both?

“We have to be grateful for the past and build for the future. The task is to achieve this in harmony.”

Gulacsi, 34, has been Leipzig's first-choice goalkeeper this season, but he has Maarten Vandevoordt breathing down his neck.

Kampl, also 34, is still a regular in central midfield, while 30-year-old Poulsen has endured an injury-hit campaign, making just four starts in all competitions.
