Dreesen and Bayern happy with centre-back pairing

Speaking after Bayern München's 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend, the club's CEO, Jan-Christian Dreesen outlined how happy he is with the current pair of central defenders in Vincent Kompany's starting XI.

It is absolutely no secret that both Kim Minjae and Dayot Upamecano have taken their fair share of criticism throughout both of their respective careers in München, however despite only keeping two clean sheets thus far in the campaign, the notable improvement of the pair under Vincent Kompany has been noted by the clubs CEO, Jan-Christian Dreesen.

Dreesen spoke highly of the improvements seen so far this season following the Leverkusen draw.

“Min-Jae and Upa played an excellent game (against Leverkusen). Our centre-backs were really good. First of all, I'm happy for both of them. They were both criticised last season, and they certainly didn't perform at their best in a few games.”

“It's just nice that Min-Jae came back with new self-confidence after the trip to Korea, that he has the coach's trust, that the coach has put the two of them up as his preferred duo, even against public opinion, he always played them.”

“You can see that they are developing more and more joy in playing and working together. And that's nice.” (Via @iMiaSanMia on X)

Both Upamecano and Kim prepare for another tough test this evening as they face Aston Villa in the second round of Champions League fixtures.
