Deschamps criticizes Olise's performance against Israel: "He didn't have his best game"
Michael Olise has made a great start to the season with Bayern Munich, scoring six goals and providing three assists in nine games since joining from Crystal Palace.
However, as France coach Didier Deschamps pointed out, the 22-year-old failed to make the expected impact when he started for his country in Thursday's 4-1 win over Israel.
"Michael has a lot of qualities, but he didn't have his best game tonight and made a lot of technical mistakes. He knows that," Deschamps said in a post-match interview.
Olise was deployed in a central attacking midfield role that's often been occupied by Antoine Griezmann, who recently announced his international retirement.
“This is a new situation for him and the demands are high, even though he's doing well at Bayern. But you can't compare him to 'Grizou' with everything he's done, even though he was in more or less the same position,” said Deschamps.
