Grifo after Freiburg win: "The captain scored the best goal."

On a day on which everything went his beloved club's way, SC Freiburg goalscorer Vincenzo Grifo found himself unable to accept the honors for the game's best goal following Saturday's 3-1 victory over Augsburg.

SC Freiburg made short work of their Bavarian Swabian guests on Saturday afternoon. Three goals in the final ten minutes of the first half ensured that Jess Throup's FC Augsburg faced a potentially insurmountable deficit with half of the match played. South Baden's Sport Club went on to take the match 3-1.

Opening the floodgates was none other than legendary club man Vincenzo Grifo. Everything went right for Julian Schuster's Breisgauer after that.

Defender Philipp Lienhart scored his first league goal in over a year. Skipper Christian Günter then added his first of the season; a right beauty off the volley to make it 3-0 at 45+1.

Lienhart unfortunately had to bow out with injury last season. Günter fought through injury all of last year; only returning to reclaim his starting role from match-day 23 onwards.

Conducting his post-match interview with Sky Germany, the man who kicked it off first explained his goal-celebration, which included a kiss.

“I dedicate this goal to my little [daughter] Giulia," Grifo said, "because she's not feeling so well today. But also to my big girl, because she'll get annoyed otherwise."

"Who do you think?" Grifo enthusiastically responded when asked which SCF player had scored the best goal, "The captain! He can be very pleased with that as he doesn't score like that every day."
