Following his release from long-time club team Borussia Mönchengladbach some three weeks ago, former Borussia Mönchengladbach defensive midfielder and German 2014 World Cup winner Christoph Kramer admitted to Germany's main sporting tabloid that his playing days might be over. Kramer may soon have to follow the lead of his former BMG teammates Patrick Herrmann and Tony Jantschke  Retirement beckons for the 33-year-old.

"I remain keen on playing football," Kramer told Germany's "Sport Bild" tabloid, "All are free to talk to me. If something interesting comes up, I'll gladly listen. The desire is still strong."

"I'm no longer optimistic that something might crop up," Kramer nevertheless continued, "One doesn't know what will happen, but I wouldn't wager safe money on it."

Kramer's career borders on the verge on the sunset phase after 13 seasons spent playing in the top two German footballing divisions for Gladbach, Bochum, and Leverkusen. He was capped 12 times for the German national team between 2014 and 2016. The Solingen-native will forever be immortalized in German football for his famous (though short) appearance in the 2014 World Cup Final victory over Argentina
