Surprise decision: Thomas Müller picks his own MLS adventure

As reported by Sky Germany, Thomas Müller has surprisingly rejected both FC Cincinnati and LAFC in favour of another MLS team.

Nobody expected this turn! Legendary German forward Thomas Müller is reportedly on the verge of joining Vancouver Whitecaps, opting for the Canadian MLS side despite serious interest from LAFC, a club closely linked with his longtime home, Bayern Munich.

Müller has also rejected a move to FC Cincinnati, who are holding the discovery rights for Müller. These will now be key for Vancouver: they have to acquire them from Cincinnati, before a deal can be struck with Müller.

The 35-year-old, who spent his entire professional European career at Bayern, is expected to sign a short-term deal with Vancouver ahead of the MLS roster freeze. Sources close to the negotiations say Müller was flattered by LAFC’s offer but ultimately chose a “fresh environment” and a “quieter challenge” as he winds down his career.

This decision raises eyebrows given the longstanding partnership between Bayern Munich and LAFC, a connection many believed would pave the way for Müller’s natural transition into the U.S. market. Instead, the 2014 World Cup winner has chosen to forge his own path in Major League Soccer - one away from the bright lights of Los Angeles.

Bayern fans already know the Vancouver Whitecaps: Alphonso Davies used to play for them, before his move to Munich.
