Mainz confirm new contract for Amiri

Nadiem Amiri is staying with Mainz, who have tied the midfielder down to a new long-term deal.

Mainz 05 have announced that Nadiem Amiri has signed a contract extension until 2028.

Amiri has been a key player for Mainz since joining the club from Bayer Leverkusen in January, playing a crucial role in saving the club from relegation from the Bundesliga.

The contract extension is an important statement for Mainz, with reports suggesting that Amiri's previous deal, which was due to expire in 2025, included a release clause.

“The signing of Nadiem in the winter gave our team exactly what we were hoping for at the time. With his creativity and power, he was able to help our offense right away, and from the first minute until the final whistle, he always gave his all for his team and our fans,” said Mainz director of sport Christian Heidel.

“He has played a big part in our success this season and is an integral part of our team. Nadiem is a footballer of international caliber and an absolute team player with a big heart - it's great that Mainz 05 will remain a sporting home for him in the long term as he was born in Rhineland-Palatinate.”

Nadiem Amiri commented:

“Last season was one of the most emotional in my career; together with the club, the city and our fans, we were able to achieve what many thought was impossible. I'm incredibly proud to have played a part in this and I'm looking forward to writing more chapters in this special story together with the team. This team and this city are unique and I can hardly wait to celebrate Bundesliga football with our fans in the MEWA ARENA again next year.”
