VfB Stuttgart's Benjamin Pavard was one of the World Cup's most positive surprises as he was integral part of the French national team that ended up winning the tournament.

Pavard's story has inspired Borussia Mönchengladbach's Alassana Pléa who hopes to follow his compatriot's example eventually.

"Every player thinks about it, but I'm aware I still have some steps to take before being able to contend for a call-up," Pléa, who joined Gladbach from OGC Nice in the summer, said in an interview with L'Equipe according to Bundesliga.com and added:

"Les Bleus, it's the very top level. It's up to me to keep working hard to be able to be called up one day. The example of Benjamin Pavard gives me hope, because it's proof the national team coach follows the Bundesliga and you don't necessarily have to be playing for a massive European club to get called up."

Pléa, 25, has made a strong start at his new club, scoring five goals in his first seven Bundesliga games.
