In addition to the mounting number of positive COVID results affecting German footballers preparing for the Bundesliga restart, the first case in a Bundesliga professional away on international duty has been confirmed. Ilaix Moriba, along with two other players of the Guinean national football team were confirmed positive on Wednesday.

The result most likely rules Moriba out of his country's opening group stage game in the Africa Cup of Nations. The "National Elephants" are scheduled to take on Malawi on Monday, January 10th. The team's other group stage matches against Senegal and Zimbabwe will take place on January 14th and January 18th, respectively.

Moriba's country were considered favorites to advance out of the group in second place. The Africa Cup of Nations being a 24-team-tournament means that Guinea may still potentially attain the knockouts with a third-place finish.
