More than seven years later, Leipzig sit third in the Bundesliga table and are in the DFB-Pokal final and the Europa League semi-final.
30-year-old Forsberg still has three years left on his contract – and he isn't planning to leave anytime soon, although the competition for places is fierce.
"Sure, I always want to play," Forsberg told Bild and added:
""I know exactly how good I am and know my qualities. But the coach decides.
"I don't see myself anywhere else. I have big goals with the club, I still want to experience a lot with the people here. The chance to win titles is there now. I play for one of the biggest clubs in Europe, we are a top team in the Bundesliga.
I've been here for almost the whole trip, that's why I have to stay now," Forsberg explained.
The Swede could see himself playing for four more years and is open to staying in Leipzig with his family beyond the end of his career.
"This is our second home. We feel very comfortable," he emphasized.
