Official: Union haul in Darmstadt's Skarke on a free

Union Berlin confirmed the signing of SV Darmstadt 98 winger Tim Skarke on a free transfer Tuesday evening.
Europa-league-bound 1. FC Union Berlin have now already completed their fifth summer signing ahead of the new campaign. Paul Seguin (Fürth), Janik Haberer (Freiburg), Jamie Leweling (also Fürth) and Danilho Doekhi (SBV Vitesse) are headed to the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. As of today, Tim Skarke of SV Darmstadt 98 also has a new home.

Die Eisernen confirmed the 25-year-old's signing on Tuesday evening. After struggling with injury in the most recent campaign, Skarke played every game of the second half of the Bundesliga season for the Lillies. He bagged an impressive five goals during that time.

"Due to the upcoming triple load [Bundesliga, DFB Pokal, and Europa League, we need a deep squad," Union personnel manager Oliver Ruhnert noted in a statement, "In Skarke we get another exciting and variable option on the flanks."

Skarke can play on both wings and also operate from a deep wingback position; something ideal for head-coach Urs Fischer's 3-5-2. After spending four seasons with Heidenheim and three with Darmstadt, this will be Skarke's first chance to play with a top tier club.
