Wirtz extends Leverkusen deal
German wonderkid Florian Wirtz has agreed to a new Bayer Leverkusen contract.
Florian Wirtz has extended his Bayer Leverkusen contract by a further year, committing himself to 'Die Werkself' until 2027.
"From my point of view, the development in the past two years was almost breathtaking and certainly not foreseeable in this form. It's clear to me that I also owe it to the team, with whom I have incredible fun," said Wirtz, who has been sidelined with a cruciate ligament rupture since March.
"The guys are a key reason why I feel comfortable here and why things have gone so well overall. There's a lot in us and in this club. We want to show that to all Bayer 04 fans and everyone else as well," added the highly-rated youngster.
Sporting director Simon Rolfes, who will replace Rudi Völler as managing director for sport on July 1, said:
"Florian is a special player. He has great sporting significance for our club, and in the same way we offer him the best opportunities for a fantastic sporting career. Together, we know we can still achieve a lot."
