Sommer reflects on start to life at Bayern
Yann Sommer has opened up about his first six weeks as a Bayern Munich player.
Yann Sommer was brought to Bayern from Gladbach before the Bundesliga resumed in January after Manuel Neuer suffered a season-ending leg injury while skiing.
"At first I just read about Manuel's injury and thought how bad it was for him. When I heard about Bayern Munich's interest, I quickly realized that I would like to do that," Sommer told Kicker.
Since then, six months have passed and nine games have been played. Reflecting on his performances so far, Sommer said:
"At the beginning there were things in the build-up that weren't perfect. But now it works very well. Basically I'm happy, but I always want to improve. I want to be a top goalkeeper for Bayern Munich. That's what I'm striving for."
The 34-year-old added that he isn't "worried" about Neuer's future comeback from injury.
"We have big challenges ahead of us, that's what I'm concentrating on," he noted.
One of those big challenges is the Champions League return leg against Paris Saint-Germain on March 8.
"We need to put in a top performance, just as Paris Saint-Germain need to put in a top performance against us. We're looking forward to it.
