In other Augsburg news, Frank Linkesch of Germany's Kicker Magazine reports that FCA midfielder Tobias Strobl is likely to retire after a decade-long Bundesliga career.
FC Augsburg are, according to at least one Dutch news source, being quite proactive in targeting a new prospect to help them shore up the right fullback position. Dutch news daily "Leeuwarder Courant" reports that FCA scouts are in regular attendance at SC Heerenveen fixtures keeping an eye on Milan Fabrizio van Ewijk.

The 22-year-old had been linked with a move to the Bundesliga previously, most notably with FC Schalke 04 two summers ago. Van Ewijk is enjoying a fine season for his Erdevisie side, scoring five goals and chipping in two assists in 29 appearances across all competitions. He maintains an estimated market worth of €4 million in the latest transfermarkt listings.

The Fuggerstädter could definitely use some reinforcement at the position. At present Robert Gumny is the only natural right-back on the roster. One area in which the club ism by contrast, overstocked looks to be headed for trimming soon. The emergence of Belgian talent Arne Engels adds to a crowded list of midfielders that includes Niklas Dorsch, Elvis Rexhbecaj, Arne Maier, and the newly-acquired Renato Veiga.

The Bavarian Swabians have two veteran midfielders that shall be out-of-contract when the current campaign concludes. Thirty-five-year-old Julian Baumgartlinger has recently proved that he might still have some use yet. The same does not apply for former Hoffenheim and Augsburg six Tobias Strobl.

After suffering a major ACL tear, the 32-year-old has not made an appearance for the club since November of 2021. Frank Linkesch of Germany's Kicker Magazine cites his own sources close to the club to claim that those associated with the front office are expecting Strobl to make an announcement soon.

Strobl's decade-long Bundesliga career saw him make 186 appearances in the top flight. He also represented former clubs Gladbach and Hoffenheim at the Champions' and Europa League levels. Strobl joined Augsburg from Gladbach on a free in the summer of 2020. He made 34 appearances for his current club.
