Reports emerged over the weekend that Jerome Boateng was back at the Säbener Strasse and could be set for a return to the club he played for between 2011 and 2021.

Ahead of Bayern's Champions League trip to Copenhagen today, sporting director Christoph Freund confirmed that the possibility of bringing the center-back back as a back-up is being considered and that a decision will be made in the next few days.

"Boateng will train at Säbener Straße for the next 2-3 days, then we will talk to him and make a decision," Freund told German media ahead of the trip to Denmark.

"It's a special situation, we had three injuries in defense in one week. We have to compensate until the winter break."

Bayern's interest in Boateng has sparked controversy as he is currently facing a domestic violence trial in Bavaria. However, Freund insists that Bayern's focus is on the sporting side of things.

"We want to look for what's best for FC Bayern. The sporting side is the most important for us. Private things are not a big issue for us. Everyone can have their own opinion."
