Rolfes confident of keeping Xabi Alonso and Wirtz

Simon Rolfes is not worried about losing Xabi Alonso or Florian Wirtz this summer.
Given Bayer Leverkusen's impressive performances this season, it's no surprise that head coach Xabi Alonso is attracting interest from Europe's top clubs.

Liverpool, in particular, have been mentioned as a likely destination for the Spaniard following Jürgen Klopp's decision to step down as manager this summer.

However, Bayer Leverkusen managing director for sport Simon Rolfes is confident that the former Liverpool midfielder will remain at the club beyond the summer.

"Yes, I'm sure of that," Rolfes told Sport1.

"One thing is the contract, the other is how comfortable he feels. He knows we will have a top team next year."

Not only Xabi, but also his key players have been linked with a move away. One of them is Florian Wirtz, but Rolfes is confident he will stay too.

"Yes. It's the right thing for him. You can see from the way he plays that he has an environment in which he can develop," Rolfes said.

Xabi Alonso is under contract until 2026, while Wirtz's deal expires in 2027.
