Lothar Matthäus believes that neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo can match the level of Robert Lewandowski at the moment.

Lewandowski is arguably in the form of his life, having scored 27 goals in 20 appearances this season, and is currently better than anyone, according to Matthäus.

"Robert is the most complete striker in the world. He's in top shape, has great technique and an extraordinary goal instinct," Matthäus told Bild and added:

"At this high level, nobody can match him. Not Messi and not Ronaldo, who doesn't even belong in my top eleven at the moment. Lewandowski is my number 1."

The 31-year-old most recently scored four times in Bayern München's 6-0 thrashing of Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday.
