Hertha BSC are close to completing the signing of Gregor Kobel from Hoffenheim, according to Sky Germany.

Kobel spent last season on loan at newly-promoted VfB Stuttgart, who would have liked to tie the goalkeeper down to a permanent deal, but it appears Hertha have won the race for his signature.

The 22-year-old has a €5 million release clause that Hertha are reportedly willing to activate.

He has previously played Bundesliga football for Augsburg, where he was the preferred choice between the sticks in the second half of the 2018/19 season.

Should Kobel complete his move to Hertha, he can look forward to challenging Rune Jarstein for the number one shirt.
