Kevin Volland hits out at Leverkusen after Monaco switch

Kevin Volland has hinted that something went wrong between him and Bayer Leverkusen before he joined Monaco.
Kevin Volland has taken a swipe at Bayer Leverkusen after joining AS Monaco in a deal reported to be worth around €15 million last week.

In a video posted on his Instagram page, the 28-year-old says:

"In the last six months, regardless of the sporting and financial aspects, a few things happened that I heard about and didn't like that much. I have to say that quite clearly."

Volland, who didn't go into detail with his statement, had previously rejected an offer to extend his contract with Leverkusen, which was due to expire in 2021.

"We were too far apart in our ideas," Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes told Bild when asked about the club's contract talks with Volland.

"In the end, we found a solution that was satisfactory for both sides," he continued.

Volland made a total of 148 appearances for Leverkusen with 50 goals and 32 assists to his name.
