Markus Krösche will leave his position as RB Leipzig sporting director at the end of the season, the Bundesliga club have confirmed.

Krösche's contract was due to expire in 2022, but will be terminated a year early by mutual consent.

"The discussions with Markus Krösche were very good and open at all times. After two years of constructive teamwork, we have now mutually reached the conclusion that terminating the contract is the right solution for both parties," said RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff and added:

"Of course, we are prepared for this situation and will also tackle the goal of Champions League qualification with a strong team in the upcoming season.

"We would like to thank Markus for what he has achieved during his time at RB Leipzig and wish him only the best for the future. His duties will be taken over by Christopher Vivell and Florian Scholz until the end of the season."

The former Paderborn boss, who joined Leipzig in 2019, has been touted as a possible successor for Eintracht Frankfurt's Hertha-bound sporting CEO, Fredi Bobic.

RB Leipzig could say goodbye to their head coach as well this summer, with Julian Nagelsmann heavily linked with Bayern München.
