Werder Bremen dropped out of the Bundesliga for the second time in club history after they fell to a 2-4 defeat at home to Gladbach on Saturday.

Speaking after the game, club captain Niklas Moisander apologized to the fans and the city of Bremen.

"It’s hard to put it all into words. It’s a sad day for the whole city, for the fans, and for the club. They’ve supported us fantastically over the last few years," said the experienced Finnish centre-back.

"All I can say is that it really hurts. This club belongs in the Bundesliga, but in the end we just didn’t give enough. We’d like to apologise to the fans and to the whole city."
