Sport1 reports Goretzka on track for quick return to national team

In the race against time to get Leon Goretzka fit in time for the Euros, it looks as if the FC Bayern München midfielder is ahead of the game.

Germany's Sport1 reports that the 26-year-old was able to return to a running training regimen today.

After an MRI on Monday, he should be able to report to the DFB training camp in Seefeld on Tuesday.

The muscle tear that ended Leon Goretzka's 2020/21 club campaign carried with it the implication that his return to the national team in time for the Euros would be cutting it as close as possible. On Thursday, Sport1 reporter Florian Plettenberg reported on twitter that Joshua Kimmich's preferred midfield partner completed running training.

Prospects for a quick return to the national team appear quite good. Plettenberg noted that a precautionary MRI was scheduled for Monday. If Goretzka is given the green light, he could begin resuming light training at the Seefeld camp as early as Tuesday.
