VfL Wolfsburg 'firmly expect' Wout Weghorst to stay despite speculation linking the Dutch striker with a move away from the club, according to sporting director Marcel Schäfer.

When asked if the 28-year-old, who is under contract until 2023, will stay put this summer, Schäfer told Sport Bild:

"As a club, we fulfill contracts and expect it to be the same the other way around.

"There was and is no inquiry for Wout from another club. That's why we firmly expect him to play for us next season. And he knows exactly what he has in us."

Weghorst has spent three seasons at Volkswagen Arena, finding the net 63 times in 120 appearances.
