Schmidt lashes out at Heidenheim fans after loss to Leipzig: "I thought someone had died"
In a close and hard-fought match, Heidenheim lost 0-1 at home to RB Leipzig on Sunday.
All in all, Heidenheim coach Frank Schmidt was very pleased with his side's performance, especially given the much greater “individual quality” of the Leipzig side.
Given that, and the fact that Heidenheim won 2-1 in a tiring Conference game on Thursday, Schmidt was disappointed with the reaction of the home fans to the defeat.
"If the game had ended in a draw, no one would have complained," said Schmidt.
"During the lap of honor, I thought someone had died. One or two people should think about what the team achieved at the end of a week with two games - against RB Leipzig, who have a lot of quality," he continued, estimating the value of Leipzig's squad as "12 times" that of Heidenheim's.
