    1. FC Union Berlin has reinforced their goalkeeper position with the signing of Matheo Raab from Hamburger SV.

According to a report from Sport Bild, the Köpenick club paid a transfer fee of €400,000 to the newly promoted Bundesliga side.

After five years at 1. FC Kaiserslautern, Raab moved to HSV three years ago where he made a total of 31 competitive appearances.

Raab is projected as a number two at Union, but is also expected to put pressure on regular goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow.

“With Matheo, we gain another important and interesting component for our goalkeeping team," said Union general manager Horst Heldt.

“We are convinced that he will liven up the competition between the sticks and are delighted that he has chosen us,” he added.
