Since joining RB Leipzig from Gent last summer for a reported fee of €10 million, Maarten Vandevoordt has been limited to just six appearances, with the aging Peter Gulacsi still the club's preferred option in goal.

However, that looks set to change ahead of the 2025/26 season, according to a report in Wednesday's edition of Sport Bild.

Vandevoordt, 22, is seen as Leipzig's future and is unlikely to accept another season behind 34-year-old Gulacsi in the pecking order.

It is unclear what the future holds for Gualcsi beyond the summer. The Hungary international, under contract until 2026, has long been linked with a move away from the club, with New York Red Bulls reportedly interested.

But even if Vandevoordt is named as the new number one ahead of next season, Gulacsi doesn't necessarily have to leave the club.

The veteran has played for Leipzig since 2015, making a total of 328 appearances.
