Waldschmidt stays at Köln, reports Kicker

Luca Waldschmidt will reportedly stay at FC Köln after the club's relegation to the 2. Bundesliga.

It appears that FC Köln will be able to keep Luca Waldschmidt next season.

According to Kicker, the relegated Bundesliga side have agreed a deal with Wolfsbuth to make Waldschmidt's loan permanent.

Köln let his release clause of €3-4 million expire before negotiating a lower fee with Wolfsburg, the report claims.

The deal can go through even though Köln is under a transfer embargo. Formally it is a registration ban. Because he spent the 2023/24 season on loan at the club, the striker does not have to be re-registered.

It's already been announced that Florian Kainz, Mark Uth and Eric Martel will remain in Köln despite their relegation.
