Despite suffering a late defeat which largely came against the run of play, VfB Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeneß credited Borussia Dortmund for their 2-0 win.

“Congratulations to BVB on the victory. It wasn't a game with many highlights – and yet the result doesn't reflect the play on the pitch,” Hoeneß said in his post-match interview.

"The outcome is bitter for us. We were active, dominant, and passionate, but we didn't create any truly clear-cut scoring opportunities. We managed to put Dortmund under pressure, but the visitors held firm.

Overall, BVB defended very disciplined and ultimately had that little bit of luck on their side. In the end, small details decided the match," the 43-year-old added.

On what was an unusually quiet evening in front of goal for Deniz Undav, the Stuttgart marksman underlined their dominance despite the defeat to the Westphalians.

“We controlled the game for the entire duration, but we were punished ruthlessly in the end. In a game like this, it's important to capitalize on the small moments, and we didn't have enough of those this time.

“You hope that with constant pressure a ball will eventually slip through, but Dortmund did a good job, defended deep, and ultimately kept a clean sheet,” the 29-year-old said.
