In the most successful season in the club's history, Bayer Leverkusen won both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal and reached the final of the Europa League.

The 'Werkself' are now looking to build on their success, with club president Fernando Carro insisting that the club isn't just a "one-hit wonder".

"We can now see where hard work, passion and absolute determination have taken us," Carro wrote in the latest issue of Bayer Leverkusen's club magazine.

“I promise our incredible fans, who are also the guarantors of our success: Bayer 04 is no one-hit wonder. We will not let up. We will continue to work hard to celebrate success together. Our ambition remains to play at the very top. This also means that we will go back to work in the coming season with the same humility and hunger for success.”

Carro looks back on his six years at Leverkusen with pride at what the club has achieved.

"When I started my work as managing director at Bayer 04 in 2018 alongside Rudi Völler, I already mentioned the word 'championship' - some people in the football world shook their heads in disbelief at the time.

"Some people told me recently that they thought: 'He's crazy'. The fact that we can now put the championship trophy and the DFB Cup on display here in the summer of 2024 fills me with great joy and pride," Carro wrote, adding that the club's successful 2023/24 season is “anything but a coincidence, not a sporting fairy tale out of the blue, but the consequence of high-quality, continuous and determined work at all levels.”
