Eberl denies Bayern reneged on agreement to sign Tah from Leverkusen

Earlier this week, Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro took a swipe at Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl, saying he “doesn't think much of him” and that he “wouldn't negotiate” with him. 

Carro's comments, for which he has since apologized, reportedly stemmed from Leverkusen's belief that Bayern had reneged on an agreement to sign Jonathan Tah. 

However, Eberl denies that the two clubs ever came to an agreement over the centre-back. 

“There was no agreement during the negotiations. I also said that yesterday at the press conference,” Eberl told ZDF on Friday night. 

"You negotiate, you have arguments, you have circumstances, framework conditions, financial possibilities, squad places - that determines how far we negotiate with the other party. I say it in general terms on purpose. If it doesn't work out, that's the way it is, you just have to go a different way".

Asked if he can rule out Tah joining Bayern this summer, Eberl replied:

“I understand that this is something that moves the whole nation, just like the coaching issue recently. We have done our squad planning, we have a very, very strong roster that we are very, very happy with. We have thought about how we can complement the roster. Some things work, some things don't work - but at the moment we have a squad that we are extremely happy with.”
