Bo Henriksen has turned things around at Mainz since taking over as head coach in February 2024, leading the club from the brink of relegation to currently being third in the Bundesliga.

In an interview with Sport Bild, Mainz midfielder Nadiem Amiri reveals how the Danish coach creates an atmosphere that brings out the best in his players.

“He has a totally clean, honest heart. That's worth its weight in gold in this business. The energy that he brings every day is indescribable. How can a person be so positive every day? He's always pretty low-key in training. But then before the game in the dressing room, things explode,” Amiri said and went on to elaborate:

“He pushes us, talks all the time and gives us a lot of passion. When our music plays in the dressing room, he dances, jumps around, laughs and plays air drums. The coach really gets us going. I'm always a little tense before games, otherwise I can't perform. When you have a coach who is as relaxed as Bo, it takes a lot of pressure off you. Then you see everything in a positive light and you feel sure you will win.”

Amiri is currently on international duty with Germany, who prepare to take on Italy in the UEFA Nations League.
