Gosens was in tears after Euros snub: "It felt like shit"

Union Berlin's Robin Gosens has opened up about how he reacted to being left out of Germany's squad for Euro 2024.

Robin Gosens has revealed that he was in tears after being left out of the Euro 2024 squad.

"It felt like shit," Gosens said in a ZDF documentary about the phone call with Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann in which he was informed of his omission from the squad.

Gosens was on his way to training after Union Berlin's loss to FC Köln and was already in a bad mood.

“He called me and said: 'Robin, I'm really sorry, but I can't take you with me. I really appreciate you, but unfortunately Union's season is blowing up in your face.”

The 29-year-old added that you can't prepare for a moment like that.

"When you subordinate everything to it, when it's an absolute childhood dream that then just disappears into thin air, (...) to have that certainty, it pulls everything out from under you," he added about the phone call.

“Then we hung up and I cried for myself. Then I called my wife and said, 'Honey, I didn't make it.' Then we cried together on the phone for another two minutes.”

Despite the disappointment, Gosens is eager to follow Germany at the Euros.

“I am still a football fan and a fan of the boys. I still have a bit of time to swallow the disappointment.”
