Leverkusen consider signing Hummels, per Kicker

Bayer Leverkusen see Mats Hummels as a possible replacement for Jonathan Tah, according to Kicker.

After leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season, it is still unclear what the future holds for Mats Hummels.

The veteran has mostly been linked with a move abroad, but it now appears there is interest from within the Bundesliga as well.

That's according to Kicker, who reports that Bayer Leverkusen are considering the 35-year-old as a replacement for Jonathan Tah should the latter leave the club.

Tah is said to be keen on a move to Bayern Munich, but the Bavarians and Leverkusen remain far apart in their valuation of the centre-back.

According to Kicker, Leverkusen want to have a replacement in place before letting Tah go, and Hummels could be that player.

The former Dortmund man would fit in well with Xabi Alonso's brand of possession football, but his increasing age and lack of pace could make them think twice.

Die Werkself are also said to have their eyes on Riccardo Calafiori (Bologna) and Robin Le Normand (Real Sociedad), but they would likely cost €40 million or more.

Another candidate is Robin Koch, who joined Eintracht Frankfurt on a permanent basis from Leeds after spending last season on loan at the Deutsche Bank Park. The Germany international is said to have a release clause of around €20 million.
