Scholl on Wirtz's struggles at the Euros: "He seems restricted"

Former Germany international Mehmet Scholl has shared his thoughts on why Florian Wirtz hasn't really shone at Euro 2024 so far.

Aside from scoring the opening goal against Scotland, Bundesliga player of the 2023/24 season Florian Wirtz has been unable to really make his mark on Germany's Euro 2024 campaign so far.

Explaining Wirtz's struggles, former Germany and Bayern Munich midfielder Mehmet Scholl told Bild:

"He seems restricted, not as free as he is in Leverkusen. He doesn't have a 100 percent connection to the team at the moment.

"He's not on the ball enough, he's not in the right places with the ball. The role is different, he has different teammates, everything is tailored to him in Leverkusen, he finds it easier there," Scholl added.

“He is still a very talented young player. Even they have such phases from time to time. He shouldn't worry, he can play such good football.”

Wirtz, 21, has two goals and four assists in 21 games for Germany.
