Völler on Rüdiger's injury: "Too early to say anything definitive"

Germany boss Rudi Völler says it's too early to say if Antonio Rüdiger will be fit to face Denmark.

Antonio Rüdiger remains a doubt for Germany's Euro 2024 last-16 clash with Denmark on Saturday.

The Real Madrid centre-back pulled a muscle in his right thigh during Germany's 1-1 draw with Switzerland on Sunday.

He didn't train with his teammates on Wednesday, but did some running on his own.

And as Germany sporting director Rudi Völler said at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, it's too early to say whether he'll be able to play against Denmark.

"As expected, Antonio completed a short running session this morning. Now we have to wait and see from day to day," said Völler.

"In the end, Toni and the medical staff will have to decide together. At the moment it's too early to say anything definitive.

“As I said, he had a good run this morning."

Germany will already be without one centre-back, as Jonathan Tah is suspended. Asked about the possibility of replacing Rüdiger, Völler said:

“We have such a great team spirit and that's important when important players are out. Jonathan Tah is an important player, who is out in any case. And if Rüdiger isn't passed fit, we have enough players. [Nico] Schlotterbeck was good when he came on [against Switzerland], [Waldemar] Anton is strong too.”

Germany face Denmark at the Signal-Iduna Park in Dortmund on Saturday.
