Spain vs. Germany preview: Team news and predicted lineups
Germany continue their quest to win the European Championship on home soil when they take on Spain in the quarter-finals in Stuttgart on Friday at 18:00 CET.
Julian Nagelsmann's side are coming off the back of an impressive 2-0 win over Denmark, in which Kai Havertz scored from a VAR-awarded penalty before Jamal Musiala sealed victory.
Spain, meanwhile, recovered from an early shock against Georgia to run out comfortable 4-1 winners, making it four wins from four at the Euros so far.
Given Spain's impressive performances and results, Friday's game will be a stern test, as Joshua Kimmich acknowledged in a pre-match press conference.
“I’d have to say that Spain have been the most impressive side so far. They’ve comfortably won all their matches – it’ll be a tough game for both sides,” Kimmich said.
"It will be a good match and one that all neutral fans can look forward to. There are no easy games, but if you want to win the tournament then you’ve got to get past Spain.
“These top-level games are the ones that you look forward to. They’ve got two good players on the wings. We will need to find ways of dealing with them as a team, and I’m sure there will be plenty of individual battles too.”
Germany have no new injury concerns and welcome back Jonathan Tah from suspension, with the Leverkusen defender set to return to the starting line-up alongside Antonio Rüdiger at the heart of defence.
Julian Nagelsmann has a tough decision to make at left-back, with David Raum hoping to make a second successive start ahead of Maximilian Mittelstädt.
Florian Wirtz and Leroy Sabé will battle it out for the third attacking midfield spot alongside Ilkay Gündogan and Jamal Musiala.
There are no fresh injury worries for Spain, who are expected to name the same team that started against Georgia.
