Nagelsmann criticizes decision to disallow early Germany goal

Julian Nagelsmann believes Germany's early goal against Denmark was wrongly disallowed.

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has criticized the decision to disallow his side's early goal in Saturday's 2-0 Euro 2024 last-16 win over Denmark.

Nico Schlotterbeck rose high after a corner to head home Toni Kroos' cross four minutes into the game, but the goal didn't count because Joshua Kimmich was adjudged to have blocked Andreas Skov Olsen's path.

Nagelsmann slammed the decision in a post-match interview, saying:

"It was a bizarre game somehow. The first 25 minutes were our best of the tournament. We scored what I thought was a normal goal, but the referee was very picky with his whistle. Small blocks like that happen at every corner, it wasn't anything dramatic.

“Then we had the rain delay and changed things around a bit. We showed some play during the break because we wanted to get behind their defence quicker. We're really good, we saw that in the first 20 minutes. We had to put up with a lot of resistance today. We need to be more patient and wait for our moments.”

Germany will face either Spain or Georgia in the quarter-finals.
